Overview

Your privacy is important to us. This Midland Online Privacy and Cookies Policy (the “Policy”) explains how we collect, share, use, and protect information when you visit or use this online or mobile site or application owned and controlled by Midland States Bank and its affiliates and subsidiaries (“Midland”) that link to or reference this Policy (collectively, our “ Site”). This Policy covers Midland's many online services including the Midland websites and Midland-branded social media sites or pages, as well as any interactions you may have while viewing content provided through one of Midland's digital advertising campaigns.  We may collect, retain, use, and disclose personal and other information about you in accordance with this Policy.  Other privacy policies may also apply in addition to the terms of this Policy.

To the extent permitted by applicable law, by using the Site or interacting with a Midland-branded page, account, or advertisement on a third-party site, you agree to this Policy and to Midland’s use and disclosure of information as described in this Policy.

Collecting, Using, and Disclosing Information

We may collect information about you in a variety of ways online, including through your mobile device. Many of our websites permit browsing and do not require registration. However, some of our websites may require enrollment or registration to access accounts and services online. Information that we may collect about you through online interaction includes information that you input, such as your name, address, email address, and other contact information; data resulting from your activity, such as transaction information and the pages you visit on Site; and geolocation information, such as keystroke and mouse movement patterns. We may also collect additional information, such as the type of device and browser you are using, your device’s IP address, details about its operating system, and other information associated with your device. Information may also be collected through cookies, tags, and other technologies, as described further below.

What Cookies Are

Cookies are small text files that contain unique data that can identify your computer and the network.  When you visit a website, a cookie file is placed on your browser and updated with each visit.  A cookie could also include personal information such as name, address, or email, if you have provided that information to a website and selected “remember me” or similar option.

How Cookies Are Used

We use cookies to enhance and personalize your experience with Midland and certain other sites based on the products, services, or other interactions you have with us and other sites. Information collected through cookies may be used to present offers to you via online ads, email, U.S. mail, or telephone, subject to the privacy preferences you have on file with Midland.  We may use cookies, in conjunction with our service providers, in online advertising either on our own Site or on third party sites to help determine which of our advertisements are most likely to appeal to you. We also use cookies for purposes such as maintaining continuity during an online session, collecting data about the use of our Site, monitoring online promotions, and supporting anti-fraud and information security efforts.

Third parties that may collect information about your web browsing activity when you visit our Site are generally limited to service providers, who may only use any information collected to provide services and marketing for us, but not to provide services or advertising for any other party. Note, however, that we also provide certain links on our Sites that allow you to interact with third parties who offer additional features, such as allowing web surfers to share information on another platform, such as a social media platform. At other times, information from a third party may be embedded on our Site, such as a map.

These features often function using third-party cookies utilized by the third-party site, such as a social media platform. If you use any of these features, these third parties may be able to access information about your web browsing on the pages of our Site where links to these features are in place. You may wish to review information on third party sites, such as social media platforms where you have an account, to determine how these third parties may treat data that they obtain through the use of cookies.

Types of Cookies Used

There are two types of cookies, session and persistent.

  • Session Cookies help a website track a user’s session.  They help the site remember your actions during the current website visit. Session cookies expire at the end of a web browsing session when you close your browser.
  • Persistent Cookies remain stored on your device between browsing sessions until a pre-set expiration period determined by us or our service providers. Persistent cookies are most often used for long-term tracking and remembering user preferences.

These types of cookies help us to improve website experiences and place advertisements.

There are four categories of cookies we may use on our Site:

  • Strictly necessary: These cookies are essential to provide you with services available through the Site and to enable use of certain features. They help to authenticate users and prevent fraudulent use of user accounts. Without these cookies, the requested services cannot be provided.  Midland uses these cookies solely to deliver those services.
  • Functional: These cookies enable enhanced or personalized experience. They may be set by us or third-party providers whose services we have available on our site. These cookies can remember preferences such as language, region, username, and changes a consumer has made to text size, fonts, and other customizable site elements. If these cookies are blocked, then some services may not function.
  • Performance and analytical: These cookies allow us to monitor the performance of our website, such as how many people are visiting our site and how they got there, so we can measure and improve your experience on our site. If these are blocked, we have less information available to us to continue to improve our site.
  • Marketing and advertising: These cookies may be set by us or through our advertising partners. This information is used to understand your use of our site so we may show you more relevant online content and advertising. If you block or turn off these cookies, you may still see online advertisements, but they will not be tailored to you based on your browsing behavior.

Additional Technologies

In addition to cookies, we may use the following technologies on our website:

  • Pixels (also called Web Beacons) – Tiny, invisible images embedded in webpages or emails that track actions such as page views or email opens.
  • Tags – Snippets of code embedded in website content that trigger actions like loading a third-party tool (e.g., advertising or analytics).
  • Device Identifiers – Information about the device you use to access our site, such as operating system or browser type, that may be used to associate browsing behavior across sessions or platforms.
  • Other Similar Technologies – Technologies that function like cookies or pixels, such as local storage or server log data, which may be used to support website functionality or advertising.

This information may also be used to understand how users engage with our website, improve performance and user experience, deliver personalized advertising based on your interests, and measure the effectiveness of our marketing campaigns.

Interest-Based Advertising

Some of the tracking technologies described above are used to support what is known as interest-based advertising- a practice that delivers ads tailored to your interests based on your browsing behavior over time and across different websites or online services. We may work with third-party advertising partners who use cookies, pixels, tags, or similar technologies to collect information about your activity on our website. This information may be combined with data from other websites or sources to help us deliver more relevant ads and to measure the effectiveness of our marketing efforts. These partners may use technologies such as:

  • Browser or device identifiers to recognize repeat visits and build anonymous user profiles
  • Cross-site tracking to deliver ads based on actions you’ve taken on our website
  • Use of limited personal information to support advertising efforts

Midland use's CookiePro to give you control over what types of cookies you accept including those used for analytics, personalization, and advertising on www.midlandsb.com.
